Unfortunately there are no standards in the detailing industry. A person can do anything to your vehicle and call it detailed. If you do your homework you can select an auto detailer that should be more than adequate to wash, polish, wax and shampoo your vehicle correctly. Explore auto detailing specifics. Learn the basics the lingo and things that should and shouldn't be done to your vehicle. Interview a few prospective detailers and you will know if they are just blowing smoke or not.
Second, find a detailer with a proven track record. Ask around. Get references. How long have they been in business? Can they show you their work? Are they familiar with your type of vehicle? Third, make sure they are legitimate. Do they even have a business license? When you finally find somebody it is still not over. After your vehicle is detailed, check their work. Wheels, wheel wells, windows, door jams, interior, paint, etc. Did they pick up after them selves? How did the detail hold up? It should be apparent relatively soon after the detail was performed if cheap store bought products and/or improper techniques were used.
